GASTROENTEROLOGY: COLORECTAL CANCER SCREENING
The Czech Republic is one of the countries with a high incidence of colorectal cancer.
The Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic has long strived to ensure early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of these diseases.

Colorectal screening - prevention - is for patients who have no problems and no family history of the disease. It is based on regular tests for occult bleeding in the stool or a primary screening colonoscopy.
People aged 50-54 should have a stool occult bleeding test once a year. This test is commonly available from GPs or gynaecologists and is quite easy and painless to perform. In practice, it simply involves taking a stool sample in which traces of blood, invisible to the naked eye, can then be detected chemically. The test is carried out in the comfort of your own home.
People over 55 years of age can either continue with regular stool occult blood tests (recommended every two years) or opt for a primary screening colonoscopy, which is sufficient to be performed once every ten years.
Screening colonoscopy is performed by a qualified gastroenterologist. The whole procedure usually takes around twenty minutes. You should find out the result immediately, or within a few days (if it was necessary to take samples).
