SURGERY: GALLBLADDER OPERATION
Anatomy and physiology
The gallbladder is an unpaired organ located in the abdominal cavity at the base of the liver. It serves as a reservoir of bile, which aids in the digestion of fats.
Pathology
Gallbladder disease in an adult individual consists overwhelmingly of the presence of stones (cholelithiasis) and accompanying inflammation.
Treatment
Surgical only - that is, removal of gallstones, including the entire gallbladder itself!
A diseased gallbladder is not necessary for a full life - a diseased gallbladder does not function anyway and threatens its bearer with serious and life-threatening complications.
Surgery is nowadays mostly performed laparoscopically - with the help of a video chain (possible in about 95-98% of patients) - by fine inlets of 5 and 10 mm in diameter.
The surgical procedure has an excellent cosmetic effect.
The hospital stay is about 3 days, outpatient follow-up and removal of sutures one week after discharge, convalescence total 1-3 weeks depending on the nature of the job, return to a rational diet in 2-4 weeks.
More detailed information is always provided by the ordering physician, surgeon and attending physician.
